We lost John Prine in 2020 and he had a musical connection with a lot of people. As a folk singer his material is certainly going to be part of your material. You know, people always ask me to play "Christmas in Prison" at shows....and they cry. I too love that song and have always wanted to write a companion piece. So we lost John last year and around Christmas time and being far away from home on the East Coast, I checked the weather. It looked like it might snow in Nashville Christmas Eve. Oh Boy records was founded by John Prine in Nashville and the first album that he released on the label was a Christmas album. I'd encourage you all to buy it and enjoy it....you can hear his sincere love for the season in it. So there it was, snowing in Nashville on Christmas Eve, his widow Fiona sent out a picture of a snow heart and I couldn't help but wonder if John had a say in the conditions. Anyway, Christmas day I woke up and wrote this in 5 minutes. It's for everyone who has lost someone and especially for those who feel the world has lost a bit of brightness that can never be replaced since we've lost John Prine - especially Fiona and the boys.
